August 11, 2001 - Great River Road State Park to Host "Fun Day"
The Great River Road State Park in Mississippi is gearing up to host a family fun day, including ATV-riding, a kid’s fishing rodeo and horse trail ride, along with many other exciting activities. On Aug. 11, the public from far and wide is invited to come out to the park and experience its many amenities.
For that day only, ATVs and horses may be brought into the park, thanks to special permission obtained from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. ATV riders will enjoy exploring the Mississippi River sandbar and horseback riders will travel down specially-made horse trails.
“We want Bolivar Countians to realize what a great resource they have here at the park and come use it. We want to give the youth an awareness of the two natural resources that we have here in the county — the park and the Mississippi River.”
The admission charge to get into the park is $3 per vehicle. A special fee of $15 applies to those who bring ATVs or horses to ride. A lunch ticket is included with the special fee.
“All of the profit from the event will go toward purchasing and posting signs advertising and directing the public to the park within Bolivar County,” Hutson explained. “We want to put up better signage on Highways 1 and 61 to better direct tourists to the park.”
The Great River Road State Park is located at the intersections of Highways 1 and 8 across the Mississippi River levee from Rosedale, Mississippi.
