October 9, 2002 - Utah's Highway 12 Celebrates All-American Road Designation
Byway enthusiasts, civic leaders, federal agency personnel and many others gathered on a sunny autumn afternoon in Boulder, Utah, to celebrate the recent designation of Utah’s Scenic Highway 12 as an All-American Road.
Gov. Mike Leavitt dedicated the highway at Anasazi State Park and Museum, located along the route. The afternoon ceremony included speeches by local leaders, including Nan Anderson and Bruce Garfield, both keen supporters of the byway. The ribbon-cutting was followed by a traditional Dutch-oven meal, provided by supporters of the designation.
This byway begins south of Panguitch on Highway 89 and runs east and north to Torrey at the junction of Highway 24. The stretch traverses scenic portions of Dixie National Forest, Bryce Canyon National Park, the historic Burr Trail and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
