America's Byways® Press Room
August 15, 2003 - Kansas Scenic Byways on the Web

The Kansas Scenic Byways Program has launched its official website, www.ksbyways.org, to provide current information about events, attractions and happenings along Kansas Scenic Byways. This website will augment the information on the National Scenic Byways Website, www.byways.org, so that visitors can find the information they desire about what there is to see and do while enjoying the wealth of byway scenery.

Each byway has its own description with links to the communities and attractions along the way that have websites as well. In addition, information about the statewide byways program is also available for local byway community leaders and others to use. The website includes a calendar of events so visitors can plan their trips around the many special activities that are held throughout the year. For example, the Peace Treaty Pageant held at Medicine Lodge on the Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway is coming up this year September 26-28, 2003. This event occurs once every three years. Check out the calendar for details.

The website is designed to be a one-stop shop for travel information by being linked to other Kansas websites. The Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Department of Commerce’s Travel and Tourism Division, Kansas Sampler Foundation, naturalkansas.org, are within one click from the byways site. The website is funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration’s National Scenic Byways Program.

Debbie Divine, Kansas Scenic Byways Program Manager, is excited to provide this additional information resource for byway communities and visitors alike. “One of our program’s goals is to promote our Kansas byways and the website is a great way to get our message out,” Divine noted. “We encourage people to check it out, let us know what they like and what they’d like in addition.” For further information, call 1-800-684-6966 or go to the website!
