October 6, 2005 - Beartooth Highway Reopens!

This popular All-American Road, which has been closed since May when mudslides wiped out 13 sections of roadway, will re-open Friday, October 7th, after a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the gate south of Red Lodge, according to Jim Lynch, director of the Montana Department of Transportation.

According to an article in the Billings Gazette on October 4th, 2005, the reopening is “…eight days before the Oct. 15 goal set by transportation officials.”
