The 2006 Capitol Christmas Tree has begun its tour of Washington State this month, passing along several of America’s Byways.

The 65-foot Pacific Silver Fir was harvested from Olympia National Forest, located near the Strait of Juan de Fuca Scenic Byway. Schoolchildren across Washington contributed 3,000 handmade ornaments, and the tree is strung with 10,000 lights.

The state tour included trips across the Mountains to Sound Greenway and the Coulee Corridor, and included a special ceremony on the Colville Indian Reservation.

The tree will conclude its tour of Washington in Seattle on November 17th and begin a cross-country tour before arriving in Washington D.C., where the lighting ceremony will be held on December 6th.
