December 28, 2007 - Gingerbread House Winners on Creole Nature Trail

LAKE CHARLES-The annual Gingerbread House Contest People’s Choice winners were announced Thursday, Dec. 27 at the Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Welcome Center.

The contest, held in conjunction with the annual Southwest Louisiana Christmas Lighting Festival, features awards in different categories including amateur, school groups, and professional bakers.

This year, entries highlighted themes such as the “Grinch who Stole Christmas,” the “Nightmare Before Christmas,” Noah’s ark, and of course, Santa’s workshop at the North Pole.

In the Children’s Division, the people selected Andrea Williams’ Christmas Castle as their favorite.

In the adult division, Blanche and Amy Richard’s recreation of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in downtown Lake Charles was the crowd favorite.

Prizes were contributed by the following sponsors: A Piece of Cake, Big Daddy’s Cajun Seafood and Steakhouse in Iowa, Cajun Tales, Casa Manana, the Children’s Museum, Children’s Theatre Company, the Isle of Capri Casino & Hotel, L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort, Putt-Putt Golf, Que Pasa Taqueria and the Southwest Louisiana Swashbucklers.
